Comical Roadmap

Post by BootBlock » Sun Mar 28, 2010 12:22 pm

I realised I don't have a to-do list and I'm forgetting what should be done next, so I've created this little list/roadmap.
Items in the list are in no particular order and will be updated as and when required.

Updated: 30th March, 2011.
Changes/Additions since the last update have a new next to them.
  • Comica v1 series
  • Definition developer debugging. [-- being removed --]
  • Database update report window. [100% complete]
  • Request new comics via the interface. [100% complete]
  • Overhaul of the image zooming & panning features. [100% complete]
  • New and powerful keyboard shortcut system. [100% complete]
  • Comic rotation for the new zoom/pan system.
  • Re-designed comic archive browser. [100% complete]
  • Allow the concurrent downloading of multiple comics.
  • Add support for plugins. [25% complete]
  • Split as much of Comica as possible into separate load-on-demand modules. [40% complete]
  • Complete overhaul of the settings system. [90% complete]
  • Complete reorganisation and refactoring of the code base. [7% complete]
  • Open up the code for certain plugins and features so others can contribute code. new
  • Rename Comical to Comica. [100% complete]
  • Comica v2 series [see here]
  • -- this project is probably going to be dropped due to the extensive work being done on the v1 series --
  • Entirely new hardware-accelerated interface written in WPF4. [25% complete]
  • Comic zoom and rotation.
  • Multi-touch support, such as pinch-to-zoom, etc.
  • Download multiple comics simultaneously. [100% complete]
  • Improved threading model. [50% complete]
  • BiQubic.Comics [what is this?]
  • Real error reporting so problematic downloads can be investigated easier.
  • ComicImage handling multiple regex expressions for stackable comics.
  • Attribute for picking out arbitrary objects such as Flash video.
  • Make everything as thread-safe as possible for concurrent operations.
  • Comica
  • Comica for Android, specifically tailored for tablets. This development is not certain.*
* Due to the sheer idiocy of Notion Ink, this has been delayed.

To add to v2(probably .1): View all comics in an archive.

Display all comic images at the same time within the image area, sort of thing?

That might be bad. A comic archive of 1000 comics, displayed in one screen? D:
Better to just download them all and put them in their own folder, and let the user go through with the arrow keys left and right.

Ohh I seeeee. I'll add it to the BiQubic.Comics bit as I totally forgot about that.

Looks good. Did you ever get the "ComicImageIndex equivalent of RedirectUrlIndex" to work? I was still holding out hope for Get Fuzzy to work.

It's in, but I didn't get a chance to properly test it. It'll be ready for the v1.04 beta.

I'm not exactly sure how it would work. If you get a chance, can you test it out with Get Fuzzy?

I hope that includes downloading the archives. That's the only thing for me that would make Comical perfection.

Woooooooooo, v2. First question: The starry night picture. Is that a wallpaper for a splashscreen or something? O: Ifso, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD take off the little "Fields Of Night" thing. ;-;
If it was to make it look pretty in a preview, then continue.
