Requests

Post by Zallist » Fri Mar 12, 2010 5:02 pm

A thread where people can request definitions without cluttering up the Dump or Single Definition threads. :D

Just give a request by giving a URL and, if possible, any needed background information.

Make sure your comic isn't listed in the list of comics which don't work in Comical yet.

Comic definitions should be posted in this thread to keep them all in one place. Unless of course one can't be bothered to check two threads, then just post here, I guess.

Well, I originally didn't post these because you didn't have RedirectUrl working, but seeing as v1.02 supports that, lets dump a few on you guys.

Ask Axe Cop and dotGif, I'm almost certain, can be done with RedirectURL. However, I won't make any until I can TEST them, since Boot wouldn't dare give anyone an Alpha version.
Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff cannot be done, however. The site is supposed to embody horribleness, and thus, will even flumox RedirectURL.
Action Trip works fine without a Redirect. To the definitions!

I'm sure that there are some technical hassle that BootBlock would have to deal with to give out alpha versions. I'm not the most techno-savy person in the world, but wouldn't he be constantly having to make new install files, instead of working on ironing out the code, which is what we all really want him to be doing.

I'm also hopeful that he'll having a working version of 1.02 for everyone to download fairly soon because he has been fairly good at getting new versions out quickly.

LOL. I guess if Comical can handle Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff, it'll be able to handle almost anything.

Wow, I didn't realize that a redirect-to-latest-comic url even existed for Action Trip. Nice find!

Ask Axe Cop is now in, but it required the addition of a new attribute called RedirectUrlIndex. If a value is specified for this attribute, RedirectUrl will store an array of everything it matches, and RedirectUrlIndex will pull out the single match that corresponds to the index of that match within the array.

Its real use comes from the LAST constant in-which it'll return the very last item in the array. Example:

Code: Select all

<Definition Name="Axe Cop - Ask" PublisherUrl="http://axecop.com/" LatestComicUrl="http://axecop.com/index.php/acask" Rating="Everyone" RedirectUrl="/index.php/acask/read/ask_axe_cop_\d+/" RedirectUrlIndex="LAST" ComicImage="/images/uploads/ASK-AXE-COP-\d+\.(jpg|png|gif)$" />
This will match all the links (comics 1 to 16, at the time of writing) on the Ask Axecop and only return the last one.

I'd really like to incorporate this index matching within the standard ComicImage attribute at some point.
Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff
What the fu...
he has been fairly good at getting new versions out quickly
This v1.02 release has been veeery slow in coming out. With other apps, I can generally make a new release about an hour after a feature has been requested. This week I've been bogged down in fixing laptops and generally getting messed about, which I could've done without. And the weather has suddenly become sooo niiice...

I can release alpha versions, no problem. It'll be a .zip though as that'll be quicker to package together.

Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff now works.

The current problem with Comical is its core. The part that is responsible for rebuilding links and images within pages tends to fall over on certain content. This is the second rewrite of parts of the core that I've done with this 1.02 version - this is the main reason for the big delays. Now I need to do a load of testing to ensure no other comics got broken in the meantime...

All of this work is within BiQubic.Comics, so it means all changes get brought along should I decide to rewrite the shell / interface.

Edit: My initial tests show that ResolveToRoot and ResolveToRootAndCombine may no longer be needed for any definitions.

Wooooo
If you want a tester for alpha versions, I'm fine with that. :D
I can usually break something fairly quickly.

So, I'm guessing that dotGif went through alright?
