Archive Request

Post by AZNsupermarket » Thu Oct 28, 2010 5:31 am

Here are some comics, where I would be really happy if you could add archive support:

1. Shortpacked
2. Full Frontal Nerdity
3. PvP
4. XKCD
5. Darken
6. How I Killed Your Master
7. Garfield Minus Garfield
8. Boondocks
9. Rooster Teeth
10. Axe Cop (normal and extra)

-Thanks!

Sidenote: Cyanide and Happiness archive feature doesn't work a lot the time.

If you don't have time to do all of them (which you probably don't), I put them in order with the ones I want most in the front and those which I want least later on.

Sorry!

I started work on a game and so have been a bit busy. There was supposed to be a new Comical release but that, too, got pushed out of the way.

Also the archive feature with Ctrl+Alt+Del and Cyanide and Happiness rarely takes you to the correct comic.

I know I posted this a long time ago, but I just want to say that I am still looking forward to the day where archive support are added to these comics.

That being said, perhaps it would be easier if you posted a tutorial on how users can add archive support themselves, so you don't have to?

I haven't added any archive support to additional comics as I got the impression from the forum that it didn't work properly most of the time. I think it just needs to be more tolerant of missing images, but it's something that's going to need a lot of testing and such.

To give a brief primer on how archive support works...

It uses two attributes, optionally four:

PreviousRedirectUrl, NextRedirectUrl
PreviousRedirectUrlIndex, NextRedirectUrlIndex -- optional

Comica looks at the LatestComicUrl attribute, as normal, and then will look for the links that matches the PreviousRedirectUrl and NextRedirectUrl regex. If found, it will then use those links for navigating backwards and forwards through a comic's pages. That's it, basically. The optional attributes work just like their PreviousUrlIndex/NextUrlIndex counterparts.

See the Abstruse Goose entry within Comics.xml for a practical example.
